The Conference on Small Molecule Science (CoSMoS) organized under the auspices of the Society for Small Molecule Science (a 501 c(3) non-profit organization) was first held August 2004 on the campus of Roger Williams University, Bristol, RI creating a continuing discussion forum for research practices and instrumentation relevant to small molecule analysis and characterization.

CoSMoS fills a need where existing conferences have become either effective venues for commercial purposes or have evolved away from small molecule interests. CoSMoS incorporates separation, purification and detection methods – both current use and prospective – as well as data management and regulatory issues in its annual program. The emphasis is on sharing practical experiences which the small, workshop-based, discussion format encourages.

The planning and program committee is comprised of a diverse group representing government, academia, manufacturing, pharmaceutical and industrial interests. The conference is a research-style low-cost, family friendly three day event alternating location annually between the east and west coast.
